Other:
Our first Frisian, he was purchased by Keith as an engagement present for Tina. He has saddle-seat points with Western Eventing Forum, is trained to ride and drive, and has a positive result for the DMRT3 gene mutation. Tina has been wanting to learn to drive and this Baroque beauty should be just the one to help her learn;
even better that he can be used to cross for KSMH.
Captain prefers Classical music and has shown a decided affinity for Peanut Butter + Jelly sandwiches.
Depending on your mare his foals may be eligible for the following registrations (listing not comprehensive):
Warlander (x Andalusian), Georgian Grande (x Saddlebred), Haute Cheval (x Lipizzaner), Moriesian (x Morgan), Gaited Baroque Horse (x any gaited breed and foal must gait), Frisian Sport Horse (x any Sport Horse breed), Spanish-Norman (x Percheron), Iberian Warmblood (x Lusitano), Friewalker (x TWH), KSMH
Genetic Notes:
The Frisian breed is not one that is commonly purported to gait, however some members have been noted to perform lateral gait type movements both at liberty and with handler/rider. Historically the breed has enjoyed shared cross-breeding privileges with Oldenburg stock; modern Oldenburg lines include the influence of Anglo Norman which, in turn, brings influence from Norfolk Roadster (now known as Norfolk Trotter), a well-established gaited breed. In the absence of DNA evidence to the contrary it is not unreasonable to suppose that the mutation enabling alternative gaits is present within the Frisian breed. Note that just because the mutation exists within a given horse does not mean that that animal is able to gait; the natural ability must also be nurtured by a responsible handler.
Captain has been built to contain the genetic capability to sire a Red (Chestnut/Sorrel) foal. Note that the real life Frisian Registry would exclude such a foal based on color alone,
however this genetic possibility
DOES exist within the real world Frisian horse breed (such red Frisians are called "Fox" Frisian).
Conformation:
Frisian Naming Convention:
Using a telephone keypad, each calendar year has 3-4 letters assigned to it; these letters are to begin the name of every foal born that year.
Using this convention, B (Black) would be a horse foaled in 2000, 2008, or 2016; 2008 being the most realistic year for Captain.
