Other:

Jewel was purchased for her exemplary bloodlines and color genetics. She is one of the mares in our inaugural (Frisian-cross) foal crop. Upon announcing her acquisition, and the plans to breed her for a Moriesian foal, the FB community at large went positively bonkers.

Genetic Notes:

Splash is known to cause blue eyes. Splash is also known to be able to be so minimally expressed that the horse
exhibits zero white even though the gene mutation is present.
Splash1 has been documented in numerous breeds and is known to be homo-viable.

Frame is known to cause blue eyes. Frame is also known to be able to be so minimally expressed that the horse
exhibits zero white even though the gene mutation is present.

Anterior Segment Dysgenesis has been associated with the Silver Dapple color mutation. As there are some non-Silver horses with this condition, as well as some Silver's without it, ASD is of great interest to researchers. It should also be noted that not every horse with ASD will have symptoms. Jewel bears no markers of the condition, and has been built to be ASD-clear.

Conformation:

Frame in Morgans:

In this breed Frame has been sourced to the Stallion War Paint (1959, AMH 12641) and his dam Painted Girl (1947). It was in response to War Paint's pinto offspring (and reportedly personal issues with their breeder/owner) that AMH established the “White Rule” effectively barring all War Paint's pinto get and grand get born past that point from being registered. War Paint later obtained papers with PtHA (as Chief's Paint with registry number 1392) and had numerous foals registered with that agency.

The well-known Palomino mare Tia (1965) and her daughter Q Tawny (1970, also a Cream) have also been implicated as a possible Frame family. There is some discussion that either Tia or Q Tawny may have had their sire recorded incorrectly (and actually have been sired by War Paint) thus injecting Frame into their line.

As of 2000 only 3 known Frames existed in the Morgan breed: 2 aged Mares (both registered) and 1 filly (pure-bred though not registered). Thus Frame is (as of this writing in 2014) believed to be lost to the Morgan breed.

In the late 1980's-early 1990's AMH rescinded their Excessive White Rule, but by then it was too late to save Frame and Roan. The only hope remaining for Frame is the fact that it can be so minimal as to leave zero white on the animal so all descendants of War Paint, Painted Girl, Tia, and Q Tawny should be DNA tested to confirm whether or not they carry the Frame mutation.

Cream in Morgans:

Cream is sourced in Buck (1930) the Buckskin dam of the Palomino Tia (1965). Due to a resurgence in popularity this gene is becoming more prolific among Morgans.

Silver in Morgans:

Silver is sourced in Headlight Morgan (1893) and, like Cream, is gaining in prevalence with a resurgence in popularity.

It should be noted that ALL of these rare colors (and Roan) find their modern source in the Cross Ranch breeding program of the 1940-1960's.

Though Jewel is a Foundation horse, for Sims purposes, I generated a believable pedigree using Buck, Crimson Jack (Sorrel with Silver grandson of Headlight Morgan),
and Painted Girl as inspiration for the names.

Her exact genetics and phenotype were constructed under consultation with real life Equine Genetics researchers to make certain she would be "believable". Frame was included in a bid to preserve this gene in this breed in the only way now left to us: virtually.
